What Happens During an HVAC Maintenance Visit?
A maintenance visit by a qualified HVAC contractor is a critical part of keeping your system running at peak efficiency. Moreover, these visits can be instrumental in spotting major (and costly) problems before they happen. Below is an overview of what will happen during a typical maintenance appointment.
Comprehensive System Inspection
A qualified technician will thoroughly evaluate your system for both performance and reliability. Major components such as compressors, fans, and air handlers are checked for performance, damage, and potentially failing parts. Further, smaller pieces such as switches, lines, and other electronic components are tested for integrity and performance. Depending on the type of contract you have (assuming you have one), repairs or parts replacement may be included, or they will be discounted. (Learn more about maintenance and service contracts here.
Cleaning and Adjustment (aka “tune-up”)
This step aims to get your system to run as efficiently as possible. Dirty components such as coils will be thoroughly cleaned; moving parts will be cleaned and lubricated. Small components will be adjusted to maximize performance, and electrical connections will be tested and secured.
Final Report
Once the maintenance visit is complete, your technician will give you a detailed account of what repairs and adjustments have been made. He or she will also discuss with you any repairs or replacements that may be necessary to maintain the health of your system.
When the visit is complete, do not be afraid to ask your technician any questions you may have. The more you understand your system and how it works, the better off you will be in terms of knowledge and how you communicate with your contractor.
Finally, spring is here. Now is the time to schedule a maintenance visit.
