Preparing Your AC System for Summer
Memorial Day weekend is considered the ‘unofficial’ start of summer. And with hot and humid temperatures on the horizon, now is the time to ensure your air conditioning system is fully prepared to do the job.
How to get your AC summer ready:
- Schedule a maintenance/tune-up call: Call a trusted HVAC company and have your system thoroughly evaluated and tuned by an expert. Your technician will make the proper adjustments, spot potential problems, and make any necessary repairs to ensure your system is ready.
- Change your filters: Whenever we publish articles about HVAC maintenance, we always stress this: clean filters are vital to the health of your system. They protect you and your system from dust, dirt, and debris. If you are unsure about what filters you should be using, contact a reliable HVAC company and let them determine what you need. If indoor air quality is essential due to respiratory allergies, you may consider installing a high-quality air purification system such as the Reme HALO.
- Clear debris and obstructions: Thoroughly check the area surrounding your system’s outdoor units (usually found along the side of your home), and remove any leaves, branches, or debris that could interfere with the units’ functioning. Also, it’s a good idea to thoroughly clean and vacuum your floor registers and move any furniture that may be blocking them.
- Check your thermostat: You can do this by setting your thermostat to “cool” or “heat” (depending on the temperature inside your home) and lower or raise the temperature until you hear an audible “click,” which means the thermostat is sending a signal to the system. Since you’re at the thermostat already, consider changing the battery. Are you interested in upgrading your thermostat? Now is a great time to install a wifi thermostat so you can design your indoor comfort program.
These simple maintenance steps will get your AC summer ready. Get started now because you don’t want to be in a sweltering hot home waiting for a costly emergency service call.
